Job offers that ask for an upfront payment

Longer note · updated October 2026

Real work pays you. An offer that asks you to pay first, however it's worded, isn't a job.

How the request appears

  • Registration or activation fees before any work
  • Training you must buy from the person offering the job
  • Kits or equipment purchased from them
  • Deposits to unlock tasks or withdraw earnings
  • Forwarding money through your account, which can involve you in a crime

Signs before the request

Messages you didn't ask for, pay far above normal for simple tasks, contact only through private chat apps and pressure to decide today.

What to do

Don't pay or forward anything. Stop replying and report the account. If you've already paid, call your bank straight away and report it to the police or your country's fraud reporting service.
